In mijn open brief heb ik het over het feit dat Airbnb zich met het platform niets aantrekt van verhuurders die lokale regelgeving aan hun laars lappen. De meest eenvoudige oplossing is dat Airbnb dit zelf in het platform programmeert, maar daar komt het maar niet van. Dat er startups zijn die in dit gat springen bevestigd dit artikel:
“Host Compliance compiles data such as the location of short-term rental listings, to provide cities with reports on which listings violate local rules. The service also can help municipalities understand rental activity better so they can craft more effective regulations.”
Zij zijn overigens niet de enige:
“Other companies have sprung up to cater to the Airbnb economy. One company, SubletAlert.com, helps landlords enforce leases that forbid tenants from subletting without permission.”
Vraag is natuurlijk of dit een goede ontwikkeling is. Het zijn als het ware een soort van digitale geautomatiseerde detective bureaus. Als we het dan toch over privacy hebben… (los van het feit dat data zonder context niet veel waard is)
